Like the Peach Tree the roots of Chilton County run deep.  Beginning with Clanton, the county seat, then branching out to Thorsby, Maplesville, and Jemison.  Chilton county has a population of approximately 33,000.  It is comprised of 699 square miles or 447,360 acres.  Chilton County is located in the center of Alabama.  More than 500 miles of shoreline formed by three large lakes are on the Eastern border of the county and help provide recreation and excellent fishing.

Recreation and Leisure

Largely rural, Chilton County possesses vast tracts of unspoiled forest land that is home to many species of wildlife.  Our area lakes help provide recreation and excellent fishing.  Wild game, especially deer and turkey are in abundant supply.  It is a sportsman's paradise!  Chilton County cities can boast of many packs of walking tracks.  In Clanton, one can take advantage of the sports complex when playing such sports as baseball, football, tennis, basketball, swimmng, and jogging.  The Clanton County Club provides golfers with many hours of challenging golf.  The club offers eighteen holes of gold along with bingo night and other social activities.

Climate

Our central location in Alabama gives us the opportunity to experience all four seasons.  Our mean annual temperature is 67 degrees Farenheit.  The climate gives Chilton County the beautiful peach blossoms in the Spring and the delicious fruit in the Summer.  Flowers and produce are grown all year long. The air quality can be described as "country fresh"!

Health care

First rate health care facilities are located in Chilton County, beginning with our Vaughan/Chilton Medical Center and various home health agencies.  Our central location in the State of  Alabama offers our residents the state of the art medical care given by the Univ. of AL-Birmingh hospital only 50 minutes away.  Also other well known hospitals north, south, and west of the county within an hour's drive.  Our local hospital provides a health fair once a year and other seminars concerning mature adult issues.  Volunteer fire departments and rescue units cover each and every community in Chilton County.  Our well trained health care persons in Chilton County provide our citizens with peace of mind when it comes to health care.

Lifestyle

Cost of living statistics in the State of Alabama are among the lowest in the nation.  The average cost of homes in Chilton County is also below the national average.  You'll be surprised at how much house your money can buy!  Great dining can be found everywhere, from traditional southern cuisine to seafood and Chinese.  If you should need assistance, the police, an ambulance, or the fire department know where you are in an instant, thanks to our Emergency-911 system.  Valued friendship-olde rpeople are vital to the city: they play important roles nt he city's many churches, provide the crucial support network for the volunteer organizations in Chilton County, and participate in unlimited community activities.  Chilton County is a place where "second careers" happen easily.

Mature adults enjoy a variety of civic, social, and church organizations in Chilton County. Chilton County's many churches offer a representation of many faiths.  The civic and social clubs offer retirees the advantage of being involved in Chilton County and making a difference in people's lives.  Chilton County is conveniently located iwithin commuting distance of Auburn and Alabama Universities along with several other colleges nearby. George C. Wallace Community Jr. College is located in Clanton, and offers a variety of classes. We also sponsor programs for newcomers and senior citizens, including Meals on Wheels.  Being a rural county in Alabama, we offer "small town living with big city access."  Qualified law enforcement provide Chilton County with a low crime rate.
